Two Facts and a Lie: Fact Checking Claims Before You Repost
Learn self-sufficiency skills at ASATTCI's monthly Open Table Skill Share!
In 1710, Jonathan Swift wrote “falsehood flies, and the truth comes limping after it."
Are you tired of hearing claims or reading posts you are pretty sure are false at best, but you don't know how to prove it? Have you ever wondered about the truth of your own beliefs or claims? There really are tests and you can learn how to use them. This interactive workshop will focus on various methods for fact checking social media posts, news stories, and your uncle's ridiculous sounding claims.
We will begin by learning how to recognize and question our own biases; then move on to fact checking tools. Participants are encouraged to bring social media posts they believe to be false.
About this month's host: Retired college professor John Hess taught critical research and writing for 26 years at American River College. He was thrilled when students had the tools to prove him wrong!
About the series: ASATTCI is proud to offer our Open Table Skill Share workshop series! Join us on the 4th Tuesday of every month for a free opportunity to gain hands-on skills in the spirit of mutual aid and community-building.
This event is free! To support this event beyond attending, you can choose the "help cover costs" add-on to help the store or you can donate to our nonprofit by texting ASATTCI to 44-321.
