Sue Foley

Sue Foley is a GRAMMY®-nominated blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for her fiery Texas blues style and unmistakable guitar tone. Her latest album, One Guitar Woman: A Tribute to the Female Pioneers of Guitar, was nominated for the 2025 GRAMMY® Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. On it, Foley delivers a stunning acoustic performance honoring trailblazers like Maybelle Carter, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ida Presti, and Lydia Mendoza.

Foley’s signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster and masterful fingerstyle technique have made her one of the most respected guitarists in modern blues.

Born in Ottawa and based in Austin, she first gained acclaim with her debut Young Girl Blues on Antone’s Records, the legendary label behind Stevie Ray Vaughan.

She’s a five-time consecutive Blues Music Award winner, a JUNO Award recipient, and holds a PhD in Musicology from York University. Her forthcoming book, Guitar Women (Sutherland Press, 2026), features interviews with groundbreaking female guitarists across genres and generations.

“We’ve been here all along,” she says. “Now we’re claiming it.”
