This free, public event invites Marin residents to explore the story of Northern California’s disappearing kelp forests—often called the “sequoias of the sea”—and the communities working to restore them. Sequoias of the Sea is set along the Northern California coast and highlights the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems and coastal livelihoods, while offering a hopeful look at restoration efforts led by scientists, fishermen, and Tribal communities. Over the past decade, Northern California has lost more than 95% of its bull kelp forests, one of the most dramatic ecosystem collapses ever recorded along the U.S. West Coast. This loss has had cascading impacts on marine biodiversity, fisheries, and the health of coastal communities. The screening will be followed by a Q&amp;A and panel discussion featuring:<ul><li>Ana Blanco, Co-Director of Sequoias of the Sea &amp; Executive Director of the International Ocean Film Festival</li><li>David Helvarg, Executive Producer of Sequoias of the Sea &amp; Executive Director of Blue Frontier</li></ul>
