Mount Gulian Historic Site (Beacon) and
Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site (Newburgh)

When: Thursday, May 7, 2026

Where: Leaves the Historical Society of Rockland County parking lot at 20 Zukor Road, New City, at 9:00 am and returns to the HSRC by 5:00 pm (rain or shine)

Price: HSRC Members, $149 per person; Non-members, $159 per person (Includes all admissions and tour fees, tips, and lunch at Billy Joe's Ribworks in Newburgh)

Our first stop is Mount Gulian Historic Site in Beacon, whose history spans more than 300 years. As part of our special tour of the 1730s reconstructed homestead, Dutch barn, and grounds, we’ll don white cotton curatorial gloves to handle artifacts and documents relating to the Verplanck family, the Revolutionary War, and more.

Then we’ll cross the Hudson for lunch at Billy Joe’s Ribworks on the riverfront, followed by a visit to Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, the nation’s first publicly owned historic site, which opened on July 4, 1850, to preserve the house General George Washington used as his headquarters in the Hudson Valley for more than sixteen months.
