Overview

Walk Seminole Heights & discover how small multi-unit homes shape livable, affordable neighborhoods. 2 hrs. Starts & ends at DI Coffee Bar.

Missing Middle is a range of multi-unit or clustered housing types compatible in design and scale with single-family homes. Well-designed examples of these housing types often blend in seamlessly with their surroundings. Preserving and creating missing middle housing is challenging, yet critical to meeting the growing demand for walkable urban living for smaller households within established neighborhoods. Bring a hat, some water, sunscreen and your comfortable walking shoes as we explore real examples of missing middle housing in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa. In addition to sharing facts and observations about the examples, we will discuss what makes true "missing middle" and how it supports housing affordability, compatibility and enlightened neighborhood design. This tour covers exteriors only (no interiors will be shown) and you may complete it on your own or with the assistance of our tour guide. We will begin at the DI Coffee Bar at the corner of Central Ave and Hanna Ave and will conclude back at the coffee shop in approximately 2 hours.

Developed in collaboration with AARP Florida & The Florida Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU).
