STEMteachersNYC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that cultivates excellence in STEM teaching and promotes deep understanding and success for students through innovative, teacher-led professional development. Our weekend workshops for teachers are offered during the school year and multi-week workshop intensives occur in the summer. We welcome and encourage teachers from across the globe, the US, and the local New York City area!STEMteachersNYC is registered as a Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) provider with the New York State Education Department.STEMteachersNYC delivers professional development workshops for teachers, by teachers, about teaching, since 2011. STEM Teachers of New York City, Inc. (STEMteachersNYC) is an approved CTLE Sponsor (ID#23385), and vendor for the New York City Department of Education (#STE-068881); MTAC Qualified. Pre-service teachers may attend for free.STEMteachersNYC was founded in the summer of 2011 by a group of educators as a teacher-led study, support, and professional development group.  STEMteachersNYC membership has grown at over 30% per year and now stands at over 1,600 members. STEMteachersNYC is an affiliate of the American Modeling Teachers Association.

<h3>KEY INFORMATION</h3><ul><li>LOCATION: Virtual on Zoom</li><li>DATES &amp; TIMES: Tuesday June 30th - Thursday, July 2, 5:00-7:30pm daily.</li><li>LED BY: Chris Resch and Greg Benedis-Grab</li><li>CTLE AVAILABLE: 7.5hrs</li><li>THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR: education professionals interested in developing and leading their own workshops.</li></ul> <h3>WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION</h3>Do you have an idea for a workshop that you want to lead? Do you need some tips as you develop your idea, or, not even sure where to start? Do you wonder about what kinds of strategies to employ and best practices to use? Join us this summer to gain experience on how to transform your own classroom joys and expertise into professional learning for your peers!Chris Resch and Greg Benedis-Grab will lead this workshop, seasoned STEMteachersNYC leaders who mentor and facilitate this discussion with an annual cohort of aspiring teacher-leaders. They will break down their personal joys and expertise in teaching into pieces - professional learning strategies, leader moves and new workshop agendas. You’ll discuss these experiences, practice the moves, analyze different strategies, and from there, you will develop your idea into a plan worthy of implementing! This workshop is a reflective space where ideas and approaches can be considered, modified and refined to provide a better workshop experience.Teachers in the STEMteachersNYC community contribute to working groups and workshops, and encounter many opportunities to facilitate discussions and grow ideas for their own workshop. Dedicated, highly experienced leaders, embedded in the NYC teaching community, have the opportunity to create real, relevant change and support the growth of their peers - at your schools and through organizations such as our’s. Teachers interested in continuing the journey may have the opportunity to work closely with us, potentially to directly observe another workshop in the future and co-lead future workshops alongside a mentor leader. <h3>WORKSHOP LEADERS</h3>Chris Resch is a Biology and Biotechnology teacher at Montgomery Township High School with 20 years of classroom experience and a long-standing commitment to science education leadership. He serves as a workshop leader for STEMTeachersNYC and is passionate about helping both students and educators grow as learners. Outside the classroom, Chris enjoys woodworking and spending time with his wife and two children. Greg Benedis-Grab is the Director of K-12 Computing and AI Initiatives at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is leading scaleup efforts of research developed curriculum materials and professional learning in STEM, Computing and AI in districts across the U.S. He is also currently leading the K-12 Nexus for the NSF AI Education Institute for Student-AI Teaming (iSAT). Previously, Greg worked in schools as a teacher and administrator for over 25 years. He has led professional learning sessions in Science, STEM and CS globally. In 2010 he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science &amp; Mathematics Teaching from Barack Obama.
