Award-winning author Susan Stryker discusses the new edition of her groundbreaking book, Transgender History, with writer hannah baer.

Award-winning author Susan Stryker returns to Hive Mind Books to discuss the new edition of her groundbreaking book, Transgender History. Stryker will appear in conversation with hannah baer, author of Trans Girl Suicide Museum

Transgender History is the modern classic on transgender life in America since the nineteenth century, encompassing the major movements, writings, and events that shape today’s gender revolution. This new edition is completely revised and updated, including a longer, global history and a timely chronicle of the latest wave of anti-trans backlash.

Stryker and baer will have a conversation, then take audience questions. After the talk, Styker will sign copies of her books.

Susan Stryker is a two-time Lambada Literary award nominee, and two-time winner, most recently for When Monsters Speak: A Susan Stryker Reader (Duke University Press, 2024). She is an Emmy-Award-winning documentary filmmaker for Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria (TVS 2005), and founding co-editor of TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly. Her most recently publication is Transgender History: A Resource for Today's Struggle—and Tomorrow's (Seal Press, 2026).

- Seating is first come, first serve. We have 20 chairs and standing room after that. If you are unable to stand for the duration of the event, please contact us and we will reserve a seat for you. Our space is small.

- We ask that books signed at our events be purchased from Hive Mind Books, when possible. But it's also okay for you to bring your well-read and well-loved copy of Stryker's books from home to be signed. We get it. If possible, we ask that if you're going to join the signing line without buying a book, you find some other way to support us. That support could look like purchasing something else, or posting a nice Google review, or telling a friend you had a good time here, whatever your speed is.

- A ramp is available for our front door. Without it, there is a big step up into the space. We do have an ADA accessible bathroom. If you have questions about our accessibility, please give us a call: (347) 487-0033. Emails might not be seen right away.
