Overview

This six-class experiential series delves into different areas of the natural, chemical and physical sciences. For ages 14 and up.

Enjoy a six class experiential series on the wonders of science exploration! Each lab based class delves into different areas of the natural, chemical and physical sciences. Discover how the rich understanding of our natural world leads us closer to God and be inspired by the goodness that surrounds us in our everyday lives!

These classes enrich practical connections to physics, chemistry and biology through observation, inquiry and hands-on experiments developing necessary science lab skills. Classes include time outside, in the lab, and in prayer. This years classes will have a more concentrated focus on biology and biochemistry.

Lab Skills Developed in Venture Science Lab:

-Use of both compound microscopes, including preparation of wet mounts

-Experimental design and isolating variables using the scientific method

-Data collection and graphing plus creating a lab report

-Dissection of specimens

Schedule

Thursday Afternoons from 1:00 - 3:30 pm

-January 7th, January 21st,

-February 4th, February 18th,

-March 4th and March 18th

Ages 14+

Pricing

Member Cost: $170 for 6-class series

2027 Topics Include:

Green Machines: The Inner Workings of Cellular Plants

Use microscopes to explore the cellular machinery that makes plants so incredible and adaptable. Test your hypothesis as you push photosynthesis to the limits! Everything growing on earth, bless the Lord; praise and exalt him above all forever. (DN 3:76).

Molecules: Always Moving!

How do molecules like glucose and water move throughout your body and cells? How do plants maintain osmotic pressure in their cells and not dehydrate or burst? These are just a few of the many questions you’ll investigate using lab techniques, live specimens and microscopes.

Enzymes Make it Happen

Enzymes are arguably the most important and complex molecules. Dive into the questions that explore their function and test their abilities by manipulating variables. Use enzymes to create your very own torch!

Ahhhh, Sharks!!

That’s right, Sharks! Learn about the structure and function of both bony and cartilaginous fish. What structures do they share with humans? Gets hands on with the anatomy and physiology through a shark dissection.

Defying Gravity: The Physics of Flight

Learn about how animals and humans work through the physical forces of lift and thrust to achieve flight. Study bird adaptations and simulate how various wing shapes manipulate the air around them to have liftoff and glide. Calculate the forces that planes must overcome and engineer your own flying contraption!

Water You Up To? Water Chemistry and Its Practical Applications

Water is so amazing, precious and invaluable to living organisms and the ecosystems they depend on. Learn the nitty gritty chemistry of this polar molecule and how it maintains such startling properties. Apply this newly discovered knowledge to ecosystem monitoring using water’s chemistry and quality as a key indicator. Explore how macroinvertebrates and fish can be bio-indiciators of water health. Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. John 7:37
