The Harriton Association Annual Meeting 2026

The Harriton Association is a non-profit organization that exists to educate the public and to promote and preserve the 1704 Harriton House, an early colonial estate in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania.The Harriton Association offers programs that  draw upon the 300+ year history that happened on the grounds of historic Harriton House. This includes the lives and times of Rowland Ellis the Quaker settler who built the house in 1702, Richard Harrison who purchased the property from Ellis, Charles Thomson, Secretary to the Continental Congress who retired to Harriton House with his wife Hannah in 1789.  During his years living at Harriton House, Thomson delved into beekeeping, farming, animal husbandry, and his great love, scholarship. At Harriton, we provide classes for traditional 18th and early 19th century crafts, workshops inspired by historic practices  such as beekeeping, bookbinding, and spinning. Harriton Historic House and Park are also home to  farm animals in the former Dairy barn, as well as educational events scheduled throughout the calendar year. All that we offer serves to weave together a portrait of the vibrant life at Harriton House.

Please join fellow members of The Harriton Association on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 3:00 pm for the Association's annual meeting. We will gather in the Vaux Family Education Center in the Bank Barn Administration Building for a brief business meeting. This year's special guest speaker is Sheilah Vance, Esq., the author of Threshold to Valley Forge: The Six Days of the Gulph Mills Encampment. This first book on the Gulph Mills Encampment reveals the fascinating details of Washington’s and the Continental Army’s last stand before and as they moved into winter quarters at Valley Forge. Copies of Threshold to Valley Forge will be available for purchase and signing by Ms. Vance. Copies of the new young readers book Charles Thomson and the Declaration of Independence by Philip Johnston will also be available for sale. This charming book was written to celebrate the 250 th anniversary of America's Independence.The program wraps up with refreshments and an opportunity to socialize with your fellow Association members.
