Overview

The work of Perpendiculous, xtra.dae, and Golden Dream Vulture concern the realm of dreams

The work of Perpendiculous, xtra.dae, and Golden Dream Vulture concern the realm of dreams. They will immerse audiences together for the first time in concert at this storied venue. Guest Dream Masters have agreed to share in this performance by revealing their astonishing memory for the dream world they experience.

The evening begins with an auditory exploration by Mathew Creer as Perpendiculous, whose unexpected and irreverent computer music combines the discipline and stamina of a wind instrumentalist with the colors of synthesized sounds. Using software they develop themselves, with support from the music community, Creer is a stylish adapter of quirks, who creates unrepentant modern soundscapes that are based in micro tonal tuning for rhythm and pitch. This connecting of pitch and rhythm, with alternate tunings, creates a musical world that may sound both strange and familiar to the audience all at the same time, creating potential for new listening experiences.

xtra.dae, the nonbinary alter ego of Daeun Maroon Hwang, who is premiering an experimental performance piece that tunnels through memories and mutates it into a dream. Based on their own nocturnal musing and the realities of heartache with living in diaspora.

To complete this suite of improvisational theatrics, Golden Dream Vulture will take its inaugural flight as Mathew Creer and Laura Cohen, both nonbinary artists, bring their dreams into the waking world. Lead by the tales of Dream Masters, Golden Dream Vulture challenges audience members to gather their own collection of strange dreams and half-remembered escapades in hopes of igniting imagination and understanding.
