Wavertree (First Gangway onto Wavertree at Pier 16)

It’s not every day that you get to indulge in a whiskey tasting aboard a historical maritime treasure: a National Register-listed 19th-century sailing vessel that represents the thousands of ships that docked along New York’s waterfront. Come raise a glass and prepare for an afternoon where history meets exquisite whiskey.Join <a href="https://www.nyadventureclub.com" title="https://www.nyadventureclub.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New York Adventure Club</a> and <a href="https://southstreetseaportmuseum.org/" title="https://southstreetseaportmuseum.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">South Street Seaport Museum</a> for a unique whiskey tasting experience aboard the historic Wavertree, a fully restored 1885 tall ship docked at the Seaport Museum.Led by Kurt Maitland, founder of the Manhattan Whiskey Club and Deputy Editor of the Whiskey Reviewer, our intimate experience will include: <ul><li>A tour of Wavertree, uncovering stories of its global voyages, restoration efforts, and life aboard a 19th-century cargo ship</li><li>A curated tasting of several maritime-themed whiskeys, each showcasing unique flavor profiles</li><li>Access to the climate-controlled crew's quarters, where the tasting will take place</li><li>Exploration of whiskey’s ties to maritime culture, including trade routes and smuggling tales</li><li>A chance to connect with fellow whiskey enthusiasts, while enjoying ghost stories and delicious pours</li></ul> Kurt regularly travels to whiskey distilleries throughout the world and is ready to answer any and all questions about these storied spirits.Every whiskey lineup aboard Wavertree is unique and will showcase different brands and expressions.See you there! *While light snacks will be provided, we highly recommend eating beforehand**Please note that due to limited seating on board, some guests might have to stand for the duration of the experience***The vessel will remain stationary for the duration of the experience****Access to Wavertree involves climbing a few stairs, walking up an angled gangway, and descending a few stairs onto the deck. For the optional tour portion, the lower decks are accessible via stairs, while the upper deck requires navigating steep ladder-like stairs.*****Since Wavertree doesn't have restrooms on board, it's highly advised to use the restrooms beforehand inside Pier 17, which is located just past the Wavertree (behind the former Tin Building) Schedule of Events2:45-3:00pm: Board Wavertree3:00-3:30pm: Wavertree Tour3:30-5:00pm: Whiskey Tasting5:00pm: Disembark Wavertree*Times may vary About KurtBorn in Brooklyn, with stints in PA, Boston, and DC before returning to his beloved New York, Kurt Maitland started his whisk(e)y journey with drams of Jameson, the beloved drink of a college friend. From there he moved on to appreciating Maker’s Mark and Knob Creek and has been exploring the world of whiskey ever since. He currently nurses a fascination with old books on the whiskey industry, dead distilleries, and a love of Japanese whisky that led him to be consulted by The Atlantic.Kurt is one of the best-known faces in New York City’s whiskey circuit. He is currently the Deputy Editor of the Whiskey Reviewer website, has released a book on cocktails called Drink, and is in the process of wrapping his second book on Cocktails. Kurt was/is also the writer/editor of the dormant, not-quite-dead-yet, and perhaps starting to stir again – The Good, the Bad, and the Funky music blog. About the South Street Seaport MuseumThe South Street Seaport Museum, located in the heart of the historic seaport district in New York City, preserves and interprets the history of New York as a great port city.
