Overview

A session celebrating the agrestic and equine through the art and craft of making perfume. Beginners-friendly, in person.

Join Minetta Rogers for a guided blending session celebrating the agrestic and the equine-- and, of course, perfume-making! For beginners, but all levels are welcome.

For the first portion of this smelling and blending session, we will learn about some smells of horses, fields, and stables. Scent strips will be handed out by your friendly Institute for Art and Olfaction team, and we will spend time smelling and discussing our impressions of aromatic materials associated with the season.

We will start the second portion of the session by briefly discussing and practicing blending scent. Each student will have the opportunity to blend with aromatic materials from the session's selected palette. We will spend the rest of the session experimenting with our own short formulas.

Each attendee goes home with a small trial of their aromatic blend.

Topics covered:

+ introduction to aromatic materials and scent evaluation

+ introduction to blending and composing scent

+ introduction to expanding formulas

Take-Aways:

+ spray vial of chosen scent blend

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Trained in architecture and design, Minetta Rogers is the director of programs at the IAO and has been teaching newcomers to perfumery for almost a decade. Drawing inspiration from the design approaches that she learned through her studies in architecture and in the field, she brings an approach to education that is rooted in facts, curiosity supported by rigorous research, and design strategies.

ATTENDANCE AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR IN PERSON CLASSES

Please note that you must reserve your space in advance. If you just show up without reserving a spot, there is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate you. Seating at this event is limited.

All levels are welcome, but this session is 18 and up (or 14+, with adult supervision).

When we host a class or workshop, we often order the materials to be used in the class well in advance, based on how many people have signed up (and padding a bit for safety). We also use class proceeds to pay our teachers. Although we realize that life has a funny way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, as a small non-profit we cannot afford to carry the burden of lost proceeds and materials.

Note also that event tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Thank you for understanding!
