Twined Rush Basket Workshop with Charlie Kennard
Learn how to make a twined basket, using rush (Juncus) grown in the Basketry Garden. Basketry expert Charlie Kennard shows you the ropes!
Each student will make a small, twined basket, using rush (Juncus) grown in the Basketry Garden at Marin Art and Garden Center. This small native rush commonly grows in damp meadows and ditches in Marin, and is also available in nurseries.
Suitable for beginners and experienced weavers. Students must bring scissors, a water bowl (a 9” round cake pan is ideal), and lunch.
These are classes for adults and teens; beginning and experienced weavers are welcome to most workshops. We work with materials that can be gathered or grown in our area; they are not available in stores. The purpose of the workshops is to learn about the materials, techniques and traditions, rather than to necessarily complete a basket.
