Get to know Basim Khan!
Basim Khan, MD, MPA, FACP is a physician executive, primary care clinician, and public health leader focused on expanding access to affordable healthcare in underserved communities. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Neighborhood Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center operating 14 centers across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. Under his leadership over the past decade, Neighborhood Health has grown from serving 14,000 patients annually to more than 41,000, expanded programs in primary care, prenatal care, behavioral health, dental care, pharmacy services, and more, and achieved national quality recognition including Joint Commission accreditation and successive federal quality awards. The organization also played a leading role in the region's COVID response, particularly vaccination drives in underserved communities in collaboration with non-profit, faith, and local agency partners. Throughout this period, Dr. Khan has continued to provide direct patient care. Dr. Khan holds an MD from UCLA, an undergraduate degree from Brown University, and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School. He completed his residency at UCSF. He is board-certified in internal medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including Washingtonian Magazine's Washingtonian of the Year (2024) and the Washington Business Journal's Nonprofit CEO/Director of the Year (2018). He has appeared on and written for outlets including NPR, Health Affairs, PBS NewsHour, WAMU, the LA Times, and USA Today.
