What does a ticket include?

A ticket provides access to all five homes on the tour for one person, a printed map and booklet, and the opportunity to speak with Wayland Museum staff at the Grout-Heard House about Wayland history. Homeowners and WM&HS volunteers at each property. First floors open only.

Question 2

Is the tour self-guided?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You may visit the five homes in any order and at any pace between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Doors close promptly at 4:00 PM, so plan your route accordingly. We recommend arriving no later than 1:30 PM to comfortably see all five homes.

Where do I check in? How do I get my ticket and booklet?

Pick up your tickets at the Wayland Museum & Historical Society, 12 Cochituate Road, on either Saturday, May 2 from 12–2 PM or Sunday, May 3 from 10 AM–12 PM. Each ticket includes a tour booklet and map.  You must have your booklet to enter the historic sites. One booklet per person/per ticket.

Is parking available at each home?

Parking is VERY limited. These are private homes on residential streets, and we ask all visitors to be considerate neighbors. Street parking is recommended near each property, we strongly encourage carpooling. Do not block driveways or park on private property

Are children welcome?

Accepted Answer

Children ages 8 and older are welcome with a purchased ticket and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. These are fragile historic private homes, and we ask all guests to help us protect them.

Are strollers permitted?

Accepted Answer

No. These are historic homes with fragile floors, low thresholds, and tight interior spaces. Strollers are not permitted inside any property on the tour.

What should I wear?

Comfortable walking shoes. You may be asked to remove shoes or wear provided covers at some homes. Dress for the weather, the event runs rain or shine.

When do I pick up my ticket and booklet?

Pick up your ticket and booklet on Saturday, May 2, from 12–2 PM at the Wayland Museum & Historical Society. You can also pick up your booklet on Sunday, May 3 starting at 10 AM at the museum (12 Cochituate Road). Please note that house tours begin at 12 PM on Sunday.
