Our mission is to promote training programs that will develop obedient and happy dogs which will be a source of pleasure and pride to their families and good canine citizens in their community. We promote responsible dog ownership through obedience and other dog related activities. Classes for the public include: Puppy, Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, Novice, Beginner Open, Utility, Novice Rally, Advanced Rally, Conformation, Nosework, and Utility. The puppy owner learns how to use positive methods to teach the puppy good manners and to build a bond of love and respect. The pup is socialized with other puppies and people and taught exercises to help them gain confidence when meeting new situations and objects. The puppy will learn to come when called, sit, lie down, stand, and not pull on the leash while walking. They are also taught to settle down, be touched and be examined by both the owner and a stranger. The instructor leads discussions on Jumping Up, Home Training Problems, Nutrition, Grooming, Crate Training, Spay/Neutering and other subjects to help the puppy’s family become responsible pet owners. Puppies are also taught the meaning of “Off”, to remove themselves from furniture, etc. Instructions for teaching some tricks (roll over, etc.) are included to give the puppy and handler additional “training fun” and to let the dog “show off”. A Training Handbook is issued to each student.For qualifying puppies, an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy application will be provided at the end of class which can be submitted to AKC for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. Additional information will be provided in class.“When you complete a basic training class (taught by an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator) with your puppy (up to 1 year old) your puppy is eligible to be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. You’ll attend any puppy class at least 6 weeks. Your instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. Upon passing the test, you'll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. All dogs are welcome to participate in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program including purebreds and mixed breeds. Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal (for display or memento purposes; not suitable as a collar tag). You and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R.
