Discusses Elena Knows by Claudia Piñeiro, translated by Frances Riddle

Led by Greenlight booksellers Mandy and Maritza, our Literature in Translation Book Group meets monthly to discuss books from around the world, with a particular focus on marginalized voices and indie presses.

For May, the group discusses Elena Knows by bestselling Argentinian author Claudia Piñeiro, translated from the Spanish by Frances Riddle. A LiBeraturpreis award-winning novel, by one of the most widely translated contemporary authors working in Spanish, Elena Knows is a unique tale that interveaves crime fiction with intimate tales of morality and search for individual freedom. Chronicling a difficult journey across the suburbs of the city, an old debt and a revealing conversation, Elena Knows unravels the secrets of its characters and the hidden facets of authoritarianism and hypocrisy in our society.
