Anywhere: Kindness, Fairness, & Action: Learning About Racism thru 4.26.26
Introduce children to the concept of racism with age-appropriate discussions, an interactive game, and a hands-on activity.
Who this Anywhere Project is for:
Ages 6-12. Not sure if this project is the right fit for your kids? Email us with questions at programs@seedsofcaring.org.
What you'll be doing:
Through discussion, video, and a hands-on activity, this project introduces children to racism as a form of unfairness and helps them recognize how it can show up in everyday life. Kids build empathy, practice identifying fair and unfair situations, and are empowered to take action to create a more inclusive and caring community. One action includes collecting new or gently used books that contain a character of color for the families supported by YWCA Columbus.
When you'll be doing it:
This Anywhere Project can be done at home, school, or wherever you are!
This project is on-going. Families and groups may participate anytime until the project ends on April 26th. Book donations may be contact-free, porch-dropped from 9am - 7pm April 24-26th at a Seeds of Caring ambassador’s home in Dublin, Lewis Center, New Albany, Delaware, Upper Arlington, Powell and Bexley. Addresses are provided in the service packet.
How it all works:
Once you have completed registration, you will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite with a link to your service packet. This packet includes project instructions, guided discussions and more. If for some reason you cannot access this file, please email programs@seedsofcaring.org for assistance.
Is this your first Seeds of Caring Anywhere Project? Check out this video to learn how it all works.
The meaning-making:
Engaging children’s hearts and minds before getting their hands active with service is a vital step in raising caring, compassionate humans. In every Seeds of Caring service packet, you'll find quick, easy-to-use guides to support you in leading meaning-making conversations! This project's guided discussion focuses on social action and service.
Approximate Cost:
Free. Children have the option to create and share a video of their learnings and/or donate gently used or new books containing a character of color. Use crafts supplies on hand to decorate a bookmark.
Why you'll be invited to donate:
Every time we're able to design, coordinate, and offer an opportunity for kids to give back, it's with the help of supporters like you. Please consider making a generous gift to help us continue to empower kids to create a kinder community with their hearts, hands, and minds.
This service opportunity is made possible through the generous support of The Center for HumanKindness and The Walter Foundation
