  • Please join us as we continue our series just for SLPAs!
  • Our goal is to foster a supportive, SLPA-centered learning community. For that reason, participation is limited to Speech-Language Pathology Assistants and SLPA students. We appreciate the understanding and support of our SLP colleagues as we cultivate this dedicated space.

Workshop: "Spanish-English Bilingual Families' Experiences and Perspective of AAC"

  • This workshop connects research on Spanish-English bilingual families’ perspectives and lived experiences with AAC to real-world application. Participants will engage in collaborative activities to build skills in culturally responsive and functional AAC support.
  • 3 hours of continuing professional development credit

Includes the Career & Community Connections Fair

Meet with and/or get information from employers, professional associations, and other organizations in our industry. We are inviting recruiters and professional organizations, for a chance to connect with opportunities in our community.

Speaker Information

Adriana Gonzalez, BA, SLPA, is a Speech-Language Pathology graduate student with over 10 years of experience as a Speech Specialist and SLPA, working with clients ages 2–21 across school, clinic, and home health settings. She is currently expanding her clinical training in medical environments, including dysphagia, AAC, and NICU feeding, while providing bilingual (English-Spanish) support to diverse families.

Adriana is attending A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences for Speech-Language Pathology graduate studies.

Learning Objectives

Learners will:

  1. Identify key factors that influence culturally and linguistically responsive AAC systems.
  2. Explore interactive and culturally relevant approaches to AAC intervention.
  3. Apply strategies to support bilingual AAC implementation in home and clinical settings.
