Sprig of That at TCCC
“Sprig of That combines folk, Western classical, and world rhythmic influences into fresh acoustic performances.” — Minnesota Public Radio
Tompkins Corners is thrilled to present Sprig of That, a tabla, fiddle, and guitar trio on Saturday, May 16th at 7:30 pm. Occupying a space somewhere between Northern European fiddle styles, modern American string music, and the “indie classical” contemporary classical movement, Sprig of That distills a wide range of musical interests into a cohesive and joyful sound that is constantly evolving.
Inspired by boundary-crossing artists like Béla Fleck, their music bridges tradition and innovation, creating something both grounded and refreshingly modern. Though their instrumentation is unconventional, the trio leaves a lasting impression with its exploration of new tonal terrain.
“Sprig of That is one of the most flexible and skilled bands I have had the pleasure of working with as a producer. The sonic ecosystem they have created with their unique instrumentation is at once as surprising as it is gorgeous.” — Wes Corbett, Sam Bush Band.
Formed in Minneapolis in 2018, Sprig of That has built a national presence, performing at Tractor Tavern in Seattle, the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, and Rockwood Music Hall in New York City. They have collaborated with organizations such as Carnegie Hall and Minnesota Public Radio to present workshops at schools across the country.
Their 2023 debut full-length album, bloom, produced by Wes Corbett and recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium, showcases the trio’s collaborative spirit and original compositions. Earlier projects include Eight Threads (2021) and two EPs, Sprig of That (2019) and Untold (2020). Continually evolving, the trio remains committed to exploration, collaboration, and musical storytelling.
