Twist of Tradition: Hands-On Challah
Braid your own challah to take home and bake, filling your kitchen with the comforting aroma of tradition and joy.
Slow down and savor the moment. Step out of the week’s hustle and into the rhythm of Shabbat with challah braiding – where tradition meets community in the most delicious way. As we braid the bread dough, we’ll weave our connections, stories and a touch of joy into every strand.

Drop in on the fourth Friday for a hands-on experience. Each month offers a fresh twist with new shapes, seasonal flavors and creative braids, while the classics you love are always on hand. Challah dough is made by Grand Bakery.
April 24: Step into Summer with Camp Newman
We’re celebrating a countdown to summer with our friends from Camp Newman. Plus meet the JCCSF Summer Camp team! This month, we will braid dough shoulder to shoulder, sing along to live music, and bring the feeling of Shabbat at camp into a warm Friday evening.
This month is all about tie-dye! Challah options will be fun, colorful and vibrant, bringing the classic summer activity from the art shack to the table. Classic flavors like sesame, everything and chocolate chip are always available.
From 2:30 – 3:30pm, Camp Newman’s Rabbi Allie leads a lively and joyful Shabbat song session. Sing along or clap your hands between braiding, and head home with a boost of Shabbat and camp spirit.
Stick around for joyful music, fried treats and a nightly ritual candle lighting as we gather in community to share light, lift spirits and savor the tastes of the season.
All are welcome. No culinary experience needed.
RSVP encouraged. Drop-in welcome while supplies last.
