First District PTA is excited to invite you to our District Leadership Conference for a day of learning and networking as you prepare for the 2026-2027 term. Along with workshops, we will have exciting exhibitors with information about their programs, services and products. The event will be located at: Edgewood High School Campus1625 W. Durness StreetWest Covina, CA 91790 NOTICE: SPECIAL ASSOCIATION MEETING - During the general session, we will be holding a special association meeting to adopt financial reviews and present the 2026-2027 budget. Please share this information with your board members, especially incoming board members, and encourage attendance. This is a legitimate PTA expense for your unit and council. SESSION ONE 9:30 am – 10:45 am101. Unit President Part 1 (two-part workshop - register for both 101 &amp; 301)Congratulations on being elected PTA President! In this two-part class, we will review the basics of PTA policies and procedures and learn management tips to help you meet the responsibilities of your new role. We will provide you with everything you need to successfully lead your unit efficiently and effectively.102. Unit Treasurer Part 1 (two-part workshop – register for both 102 &amp; 302)Review all responsibilities of the unit treasurer over the course of an entire financial year. Topics include banking, budgeting, fundraising, contracts, money handling, and financial reports.103. Parliamentarian Basics Part 1 (two-part workshop – register for both 103 &amp; 303) Learn basic parliamentary procedure and duties of the parliamentarian. Learn what's in your bylaws and the procedure for amending them. We will also cover nominations and elections.104. SecretaryLearn the role and the job responsibilities of being the secretary, including: how to prepare minutes that are correct, concise, and complete; what should be “for the record,” what to leave out; how to approve, correct, and file the master copy of the minutes; how to deal with correspondence; duties as an executive board member. Plan to review a brief meeting example and receive handouts including sample minutes to help you prepare your own.105. You Are On the PTA Board, Now What?Board members are never alone. Come and learn the basics of all board positions, how to work with board members efficiently and effectively, and what resources are available to get the job done. Learn how to have fun and productive meetings all while fulfilling your roles and responsibilities as elected/appointed PTA leaders.106. PTA Financial ReviewsEverything you need to know to conduct a PTA financial review at any level! Walk step by step through the Financial Review Checklist and learn how to fill out the Financial Review Report. Come and hear tips and tricks from seasoned financial reviewers. SESSION TWO 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm201. Council Leadership EssentialsFor council presidents, treasurers, membership chairs and other council board members. You're on the council board now...and things are a little different! Learn the role of the Council PTA board members, their responsibilities, and how each role interacts with units and First District PTA. Learn tips and tricks from district leaders to make your transition to council smooth!202. Tax ComplianceAre those tax forms overwhelming and confusing? Learn how to complete them correctly and file on time. Keep your PTA unit in compliance and good standing with PTA, the IRS, the State of California, and the Office of the Attorney General.203. You Are On the PTA Board, Now What? (Offered in Spanish): Estas en el consejo de PTA, Y ahora que hacer?Miembros del consejo nunca están solos. Learn to address disagreements constructively, build stronger relationships, and maintain a positive and productive environment for your PTA. You'll leave this workshop with the confidence and skills to lead through challenges and foster a thriving PTA community.206. PTA Advocacy and Current Events We’ll go over what advocacy means at the unit and council level, and how that connects to California State PTA and National PTA. We’ll then discuss the status of public education today, in both the state and in the nation, the current major issues and where PTA stands, and how to address these concerns with our members. SESSION THREE 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm301. Unit President Part 2 (two-part workshop - register for both 101 &amp; 301)Part two of the information presented in Unit President 101. Includes how to create an agenda, financial responsibilities, communication, how to use FutureFund Connect and conflict management for leaders.302. Unit Treasurer Part 2 (two-part workshop – register for both 102 &amp; 302)Review all responsibilities of the unit treasurer over the course of an entire financial year. Topics include banking, budgeting, fundraising, contracts, money handling, and financial reports.303. Parliamentarian Basics Part 2 (two-part workshop - register for both 103 &amp; 303)Part two of the information presented in Parliamentarian Basics Part 1. Also includes step-by-step instructions for updating bylaws, participating in a live demonstration of the FutureFund Connect bylaws software, and getting your bylaws questions answered.304. TOTEM Membership EssentialsLearn how to use TOTEM, California State PTA's Membership Management Program platform, to input your members, run reports and more tools.305. PTA CommunicationsPTAs are encouraged to communicate with PTA members, the school community, and the community at large to inform them about the value of PTA. This workshop will focus on tips, tricks, and strategies to help spotlight your PTA’s goals and accomplishments to your school community and beyond! We will touch on digital communication tools (email, websites, etc.), social media best practices, and more.306. Successful Programs for Family EngagementKeep your PTA fresh by adding a new program or updating a current one. This workshop will share successful tactics that turn a good event into a great one with planning, safe implementation, and promotion. Get ideas from other PTAs that engage parents, raise funds, provide family entertainment, and meet the goals of your community. Your PTA can become more inclusive, individualized, integrated, and impactful in its approach to family engagement!
