Solar and Electrification Options for Owners and Renters

Sulzer Regional Library, Chicago Public LibraryChicago, IL
Wednesday, April 15  •  5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Overview

Learn how to access solar power and electrify your home, regardless of whether you own or rent!

Do you want to explore solar but don't know where to start? Do you want to switch to renewable energy sources but feel like you can't because you're a renter? Are you interested in reducing your reliance on natural gas by electrifying your home? Have you heard about plug-in solar and want to know more?

If so, this is the event for you! We will be featuring presentations from experts at Citizens Utility Board (CUB) and the Electric Home Company. You will learn about rooftop solar install, community solar, and plug-in solar, PLUS how to reduce your carbon footprint by electrifying your home! These presentations will outline options for both homeowners and renters, so nobody will be left out. At the end, we will offer an opportunity for attendees to take direct action on making plug-in solar more accessible to Illinois residents by eliminating fees and approval requirements. The event will also have a community meet and greet portion where you can check in and mingle with other attendees.

Chicago Environmentalists is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to change Chicago culture so environmental issues become a social and political priority. They run an online sustainability community where those who care about environmental issues can ask questions and find sustainability resources, events, news, policy updates, and more. They also host a website that serves as the "Green Pages" of Chicagoland, and advocate for environmental legislation.

Citizens Utility Board (CUB) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group created to fight for the rights of customers of investor-owned electric, gas and telecom utilities across Illinois. CUB’s team of consumer advocates, environmentalists, legal experts and researchers works everyday for Illinois consumers.

The Electric Home Company empowers homeowners to create healthy, efficient, sustainable living spaces through education, technology, and a supportive network of industry professionals. Our speaker will be Founder Aaron Stash, a Climate Hero Award Nominee. Aaron's own path led him to design and build a LEED Platinum certified home he and his family have lived in since 2014.
