Learn perspective as you put brush to canvas! BRAC’s Spring 2026 Painting classes offer creativity, community, and the joy of art.
Let Your Creative Spirit Bloom This Spring!
Saturdays - 9 Sessions (Apr 18, 25 | May 2, 9, 16, 30 | June 6, 20, 27)
- 3:30 –5:30 PM – Applied Perspective in Portrait Painting led by Jaron Newton
🎨 BRAC Artist Showcase – June 13!
This 10-week Saturday course at Bronx River Art Center teaches adult painters a structured, repeatable method for creating portraits using applied perspective. Rather than relying on intuition, students learn to approach every portrait as a three-dimensional spatial problem — using 1-point, 2-point, and 3-point perspective as the architectural foundation of each painting.

Each Saturday follows a consistent format: the instructor opens with a brief conceptual introduction and delivers a full live painting demonstration. Students then have approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of independent practice. Value strings are introduced as early as Week 2, beginning with monochromatic sequences before moving into full color strings by Weeks 4 and 5. The final weeks of the course shift to open studio time — students bring their own photo references and apply what they've learned toward a painting of their choosing.
The final session is a group critique and portfolio share. This course is for adults of all skill levels. Advanced students may extend any week's concept to full figure work.
