Overview

Join us for our 3rd annual camping trip, ON BIKES! Rain or shine, we will enjoy an 18 mile self-supported ride to camp out for a night.

Join us for the Access Hopkins Bike Camping Trip to Carver Park Reserve!

Event Details:

  • Date: Sat. June 13 - Sun. June 14th
  • Time: Meet up 10am - introductions and rollout at 10:30am
  • Location: Starting Point - Tonka Cycle 416 11th Ave. S. Hopkins, MN 55343

This is a casual introduction/refresh to bike camping. We will meet at Tonka Cycle at 10AM to make introductions and have a quick gear check before rolling out at 10:30AM at a social/leisurely pace. Tonka Cycles is hosting a Bike Communiting/Touring (https://www.tonkacycleandski.com/pages/events) seminar at 6PM on June 1st- bring your questions, bring your ride and get ready for tyhe ride!

The route is 95% crushed limestone bike trails and 5% paved trails in Carver itself (nearly any bicycle will be adequate) and we will ride at a social/leisurely pace. That puts us in Excelsior by 11:00am for coffee/lunch, arriving in camp a little after noon. Plenty of time for setting up camp and optional mountain biking at Monarch MTB trails adjacent to the campground so ride your mountain bike if you wish to join that part of the adventure.

We are planning to bring food to share and ask folks to bring some extras to share.

BIKE-ONLY SITE

Lake Auburn Campground is accessed via the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. Campsite amenities include a commons area with a fire ring, picnic tables, hammock posts, bike rack and all the other nearby facilities of Carver Park Reserve. As drop-in sites, no reservations are available.

Participants are otherwise expected to supply all their own food and gear. Full recommended gear list provided below and in the registration confirmation email.

Access Hopkins is a chapter of the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota a 501c3 Minnesota nonprofit organization striving to increase the bike friendliness of our state.
