In a special lecture about <a href="https://abc.nl/book-details/the-pickled-city/@9781797238371" title="https://abc.nl/book-details/the-pickled-city/@9781797238371" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Pickled City: The Story of New York Pickles</a> the authors (also known for their bestselling book De Zure Stad on the history of pickles in Amsterdam) explore the fascinating journey of the humble pickle — from ancient food preservation traditions to the bustling pickle stands and family businesses that once defined the Lower East Side. Drawing on rich archival images and stories from immigrant communities, The Pickled City reveals how pickles became a symbol of migration, entrepreneurship, and everyday life in New York. The lecture will uncover the cultural history behind this iconic food and the neighborhoods, delis, and street vendors that helped shape New York's culinary identity.You will get to taste the pickled flavors of New York as well. The book presentation will feature an introductory tasting with traditional New York pickles by Simone van Thull, from Thull's Deli. She will give a short introduction to the pickles along with the tasting. About the authors: Paul van Ravestein and Monique Mulder are the principals of Mattmo Creative, a branding agency in Amsterdam.
