Punslingers clash in a battle of wits and wordplay for the honor (?) of being New York's top Punster at the NYC Pun Off
The NYC Pun-Off is a competitive wordplay event that is exactly what it sounds like. If you love puns, you'll love this. If you don't love puns... we can fix that.
A long time ago in a comedy club far, far away… just kidding, it was San Francisco. But the legend is real.
Worldwide Puns has been producing the Bay Area Pun-Off for a decade — selling out every show since inception, including Cobb's Comedy Club as part of SF Sketchfest. Part comedy competition, part verbal sport, the Pun-Off has built a cult following by transforming the lowest form of humor into a high-stakes art form.
Now we’re coming to New York. And we chose the most special of days, May the Fourth.
Contestants face off in multiple rounds — testing their ability to improvise, riff, and land the perfect (or perfectly terrible) pun under pressure. The Force is strong with some of them; others will fall to the Dork Side.
At the helm: co-hosts and master facilitators, Jonah Spear and Brady Gill — obvious summer camp professionals who have made an alarming career out of bringing people together around our weird, playful selves. Expect high energy, genuine warmth, and the kind of wit that ensures the whole room is in on the joke.
Expect lightning-fast wordplay, unexpected brilliance, and quips that make you shake your head, laugh, and groan all at once. Whether you're a lover of language, a comedy nerd, or planning a first date that is either going to go very well or, at least, reveal something important — this show delivers.
Oh, and there's a Wild Card round. We will select one volunteer punslinger from the audience to compete in the actual lineup - You could walk in as a spectator and leave as a champion!
May the Fourth be with you. 🌭
