What kind of trees are available?

There are 11different tree species available. Complete the registration form to indicate which species of trees you would like to receive. Each household may order up to two trees. Trees will be provided in either 2-gallon or 3-gallon pots.

How do I get my tree?

Accepted Answer

Trees should be picked up in person during the event. A limited number of trees may be available for walk-ups, but reserving in advance is strongly encouraged. For neighbors with limited mobility or transportation access, Southside ReLeaf will coordinate delivery and/or planting assistance.

Question 3

Am I guaranteed  to receive the tree species I select on the registration form?

Accepted Answer

We have limited quantities of each tree species available. Trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We will do our best to honor the species preference(s) you select on the registration form. If we "sell out" of that species before you register, we will offer an alternative.

Question 4

I don't live in one of the priority zip codes (23224, 23225, and 23234). Can I still get a tree?

Accepted Answer

Priority will be given to residents living in zip codes 23224, 23225, and 23234, but any Richmond resident can complete the registration form to request a free tree. If we still have trees available after meeting the needs of our priority zip codes, we will allocate them to other Richmond zip codes.

This is my first time planting a tree. Will you provide instructions?

Whether this is your first time planting a tree or you’re a seasoned expert, every tree comes with planting instructions in both English and Spanish. Our team is committed to helping you succeed, and additional guidance may be available for residents who need extra support.

Question 6

What should I do to prepare before planting my tree?

Accepted Answer

Before you dig,  you should contact Miss Utility at least three full business days in advance. By using Virginia 811’s free service to mark underground utility lines, you can prevent damage to your property, your neighborhood, and yourself. Call 811 or 1-800-552-7001 to get started.

Question 7

Do you need volunteer to help with the tree giveaway?

Accepted Answer

Yes! This event depends on community support, and we would love to have you involved. Volunteers are needed to assist with distributing trees at the event, delivering them to residents who cannot attend, and helping plant them in the right locations. Sign up at southsidereleaf.org/tree-giveaway.
