2024 Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle Blanc $31.94 Founded in 1983, Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle is a cooperative of 80 small artisan growers, each too small to produce and bottle wine independently. Together, they farm 18 hectares, accounting for roughly 90% of all grapes grown in Morgex et La Salle. The cooperative follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, with a strong respect for local terroir and tradition.The dry mountain air and cool climate of Valle d’Aosta significantly reduce vine disease pressure, allowing for ungrafted vines that produce wines of purity and longevity. This is 100% Prié Blanc, an indigenous grape that has been cultivated in the region since the 17th century. It is fermented in stainless steel to preserve its alpine freshness. 2024 Grosjean Petite Arvine Valle d'Aosta Vigne Rovettaz $33.94 The Grosjean family has roots in Valle d’Aosta dating back to the 17th century. In the 1960s, Dauphin Grosjean revitalized the family estate, later joined by his five sons, each specializing in different aspects of vineyard and cellar work. In 2018, the third generation joined the domaine.This Petite Arvine is sourced from the steep Rovettaz vineyard at 550 meters elevation. Known for its bright acidity and mineral profile, Petite Arvine thrives in alpine climates and is a specialty of Valle d’Aosta and neighboring Switzerland. The wine is fermented 70% in stainless steel and 30% in oak, aged on the lees for eight months, and then rested for an additional three months in bottle. 2023 Grosjean Pinot Noir $25.94 Vineyards in Valle d’Aosta are often referred to as “heroic vineyards,” defined by steep slopes (over 30%), high elevations (above 500 meters), and terraced plantings. Pinot Noir has been cultivated in the region for centuries, though modern plantings date to the 1970s.Grosjean has been producing Pinot Noir for over 50 years, planting on steep, sun-exposed slopes to fully ripen the grape in this alpine environment. The wine is fermented with 70% whole clusters and 30% destemmed fruit, then aged in 3,000-liter oak foudres for eight months, followed by three months in bottle. 2023 Donnas Barmet Nebbiolo $24.94 In 1971, a group of growers formed a cooperative in Donnas with the goal of preserving quality and authenticity in the region’s wines. Donnas lies on the border of Carema in Piedmont and shares a focus on Nebbiolo, known locally as Picotendro.The Donnas DOC requires a minimum of 24 months of aging, including at least 10 months in wood. “Barmet” refers to the small natural cellars carved into the rock among the vineyards, historically used for aging wine. This bottling reflects the traditional alpine expression of Nebbiolo. 2022 Grosjean Torrette Valle d'Aosta $31.94 Torrette is a key appellation in Valle d’Aosta centered on red wines made primarily from Petit Rouge, the region’s most widely planted grape. The vineyards are located between 600 and 750 meters on steep slopes with excellent sun exposure.This wine is composed of 80% Petit Rouge, blended with native varieties such as Vien de Nus, Fumin, and Cornalin. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel to maintain freshness and varietal clarity. 2023 Grosjean Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz $31.94 In recent decades, Valle d’Aosta has undergone a significant qualitative shift, investing in research and rediscovering its native grape varieties. Cornalin is one such variety, valued for its distinct personality and aging potential.The vines are planted at 700 meters on sun-exposed slopes in the Rovettaz vineyard. The grapes are destemmed and aged in oak tonneaux for eight months, followed by six months in bottle, resulting in a structured yet vibrant alpine red.
