Making Accessible Videos - A Starter Guide

This starter guide session will provide a solid foundation to help you meet the new accessibility standards for your course videos.

<p>As faculty at Portland State University, we all want to create engaging, inclusive course content that reaches every student. With new Title II accessibility requirements, making your videos digitally accessible is now a necessary part of that goal.</p><p>This starter guide workshop is designed to walk you through the process step-by-step. We know accessibility can feel daunting, but we're here to make it simple and straightforward. Over the course of this session, we'll cover best practices for creating accessible videos - from recording and presenting in Zoom, to describing visual content, to adding captions.</p><p>Whether you're new to this or looking to refine your approach, you'll leave with a solid foundation to help you meet the new accessibility standards. Topics will include:</p><ul><li>Tips for Zoom recording and presenting with accessibility in mind</li><li>Techniques for describing visual content on slides and in videos</li><li>Steps for captioning videos for maximum accessibility</li><li>Resources and tools to simplify the video accessibility process</li></ul><p>This starter guide session will provide a solid foundation to help you meet the new accessibility standards for your course videos.</p><h4>This event is for Portland State faculty and staff.</h4><p>The Office of Academic Innovation is committed to making our events accessible to all Portland State University faculty and staff. <h2>Marcelo Tesón</h2><p>Marcelo Teson is an award-winning sound editor and multimedia instructor with over two decades' experience in bringing multimedia into the classroom. Most recently he founded and directed the Creative Action Youth Cinema Collective, a nonprofit film collective for young people in Austin, TX from 2015-2023. As a sound editor, his professional credits include the feature films "Hostel," "Grandma's Boy," "Southwest of Salem," and the upcoming "Night in West Texas," as well as the television shows "Law &amp; Order," "Arrested Development," and "Psych." Marcelo is a proud alumnus of the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.</p>
