I Found ______ in Translation: A Poetry & Knot-Making Workshop

I Found ______ in Translation: A Poetry & Knot-Making Workshop

Dear EleanorMiami, FL
Saturday, Apr 11 from 11 am to 1 pm
Overview

Translate written poetry into the language of knots in this skill-sharing workshop inspired by traditional Incan record-keeping systems.

Designed specifically for duos—child and caretaker, siblings, best friends, neighbors, etc.—I Found _____ in Translation is a skill-sharing workshop and celebratory exercise that translates the lived experiences of multilingual speakers into a language of knots created by project manager Melissa Nieto, inspired by traditional Incan quipus record-keeping systems.

Teaching artist Sara Gomez will guide participants through a poetic reflection on instances when translation has allowed them to better communicate with the world around them. Through prompts that encourage creative language exploration, each person will discover a five-letter word that encapsulates their reflections.

Each duo will then learn Melissa’s “code language” and embark on the hands-on portion of the workshop, supporting each other tactically through the process of translating words into the colorful, texture-rich language of knots.
