Victory Garden 101 - Part 1

Victory Garden 101 - Part 1

Raven Hill FarmRemsen, NY
Saturday, Apr 18 from 1 pm to 3 pm
Overview

Learn how to grow your victory garden with this hands-on class in our at our homestead. Part of a 3 class series on gardening basics.

Join Niki in the garden to learn about garden planning, seed starting, garden bed preparation, and more.

  • Discuss how the garden was built, features that help our annual plants grow, and how you can start gardening this year. We use permaculture, silvoculture, and natural/organic practices.
  • Learn about bed preparation, compost, and building a raised bed vs. planting directly in the soil. We will discuss a variety of methods such as no-till/low till, modified hugelkultur, etc.
  • Discuss seed starting for indoor plants, and how to determine what to start indoors vs. outdoors. We will transplant some indoor started plants to their beds, and direct seed some new veggies. We will discuss plant spacing, sequential planting, and bed rotation strategies.

Niki and Tom have been growing and preserving seasonal vegetables for 8 years in their 2000 sq ft garden. We are excited to share our knowledge with others.

This class is part of a 3-part series, with subsequent classes in June and August. The garden will be raw dirt during this session. Please join us for our other sessions to observe the full growth cycle of the garden, and keep your eyes out for other classes discussing Food Forests and Perennial plants.

This event is open to all ages and abilities. Please wear boots and expect mud.

A suggested donation of $20 can be paid at the class.
