If my child is not yet ready for a group ride, can I still participate in the event?

Do I need to accompany my child on the ride?

Yes, all children should be accompanied by an adult. This helps with safety and confidence on a ride of this size.

How do I know if my child is ready to participate in the group ride?

Here's some guidance from Ghisallo: All participants must be able to ride without training wheels for 1.75 miles, at an average pace of 6-9 miles an hour. If that doesn't describe your child, they can still get some bike time in at our Beginner Bike workshop with Austin Youth Fitness.

I/we do not have a bike or are unable to get our bikes to the event. Can I still participate?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer loaner bikes this year. That said, there is still plenty to do and fun to be had at the event if you are not able to join the group ride!

I do not have a child or teenager in my care. Can I still join Kidical Mass?

Accepted Answer

Yes! This is an all-ages-and-abilities ride. While kids' mobility rights and bike stories will be at the center of the event, we welcome allies of all ages to ride along with us.

Where is parking for the event?

Limited parking will be available in the two Marshall Middle School parking lots. There is also ample street parking along Tilley St. and neighboring streets.

Will the event be photographed? What is the photography policy?

Accepted Answer

The group ride will be photographed, and participants in the ride will be required to sign a photography waiver allowing their image to be used in the group photos. That said, for any close-up photographs where an individual or small group is the focus. we will be asking verbal permission.

What should we bring?

Bikes, bike helmets (for children and adults), water bottles, sunscreen.

What is the route like?

This 1.75-mile loop is quite flat, and we will not leave the Mueller neighborhood. We will mostly be riding on neighborhood streets rather than in bike lanes. Volunteers will assist at intersections and on turns to make sure the  group crosses safely and stays together.
