Motherhood is a beautiful experience, but it takes a village to raise a child. That’s why Rafiki Coalition is bringing you the second annual Reset Saturday!This year’s theme is “And How Are The Children? Perinatal Health, Birth Equity, and Community Solutions.” The focus is on supporting perinatal mothers (mothers who are pregnant or have children up to three years old) and uplifting the community that supports these mothers to ensure their children’s well-being. If the community is strong, the children will be too.Among African tribes, the Maasai were considered the most fearsome, and yet Maasai warriors would greet each other by saying "Kasserian Ingera," meaning "And how are the children?" and respond by saying "All the children are well." This greeting highlights the cultural significance of protecting children's welfare and this idea is the driving force behind this year's Reset Saturday.The main attraction for Reset Saturday is a panel discussion entitled: Reclaiming the Perinatal Experience: Healing, Joy, and Community Care. This panel is designed to give mothers the knowledge necessary to have a positive birthing experience before, during, and shortly after their child is born. This panel features:<ul><li>Kiki Jordan, Founder and Director of Birthland Midwifery, Licensed Community Midwife</li><li>Shaun Burgess, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor at Breast Friends Lactation</li><li>Rachel Mauricio, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) at Rafiki Coalition</li><li>And Porsha Brooks, Associate Social Worker and Case Manager at Rafiki Coalition</li><li>With moderator Alexis Cobbins, MSW, Maternal Health Advocate and former Executive Director of the California Preterm Birth Initiative at UCSF</li></ul>Other activities happening at Reset Saturday include:<ul><li>An opening activation with recording artist Queen Imïnah</li><li>Transitions For Wellness – Massage, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic</li><li>Fatherhood Lounge featuring Joey C and Tyrell Da Barber</li><li>Kuumba Corner – featuring Sierra Salome</li><li>The Hoopbus</li><li>Pop Life Photo Booth</li><li>Catered lunch from Little Skillet</li><li>Entertainment by Hip Hop For The Future (Featuring Khafre Jay)</li><li>And more!</li></ul>REGISTER TODAY and share this with a new or expecting mother. Thank you to: Magic Toothbus, Homeless Children's Network, SisterWeb, San Francisco Department of Public Health – Youth Programs and Services, San Francisco City EMT, and San Francisco Recreation &amp; Parks.Note: Perinatal typically refers to the time period starting from the 20th week of pregnancy and ending 1 to 4 weeks after birth. However, when we use perinatal, we are expanding the timeframe to be from pregnancy to 3 years after birth.
