Open to the Public Lecture Series

The Kansas City Artists Coalition was created to change the lives of artists living in Kansas City, Missouri.On March 5, 1975 a large group of artists gathered in the studio of local artists Philomene Bennett and Lou Marak to address “How the Artist Can Benefit from Centralization.” Overwhelmingly the group felt a self-initiated organization was the only alternative to isolation, elitism, apathy, and ignorance. The ultimate result of that meeting was the incorporation of the Kansas City Artist Coalition in August 1976.The Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC or Artists Coalition) is an artist-centered, artist-run alternative space that presents a variety of exhibitions of contemporary artists' work in its galleries.

“Archives, Identity, and Local History” with Stuart HindsExploring how research and historical context shape creative expression. Hinds to share his work documenting Kansas City’s LGBTQ+ history and how artists can use archives as living sources of inspiration.

The Kansas City Artists Coalition Lecture Series “Open to the Public” is about bringing people together — artists, educators, and community members — to share ideas, spark creativity, and start meaningful conversations. Each event opens up space to explore how art, music, movement, and creative thinking connect us, inspire us, and shape the life of our city. Whether you make art or simply love being around it, these talks invite everyone to be part of Kansas City’s creative story.Program Description: The Open to the Public lecture series explores creativity in its broadest sense — from visual art and performance to writing, music, movement, and social innovation. Each session highlights a distinctive voice contributing to Kansas City’s cultural landscape, encouraging attendees to think expansively about what creativity means today.Format:● 45-minute lecture or presentation● 15-minute audience Q&amp;A● Followed by informal reception
