The Boston Pride for the People Pride Parade is a rain or shine event. Ponchos and umbrellas are welcome.

How do we know where we will appear in the parade?

The parade lineup is determined by the BP4TP. Several factors are considered when assigning placement, including accessibility needs, group size, safety considerations, etc. The line up is listed on our website prior to the parade.

How many marchers can be in our group?

Accepted Answer

Each contingent is limited to 75 marchers. This limit helps ensure the parade remains safe, accessible, and able to move smoothly along the route.

Do group leaders need to attend training?

Accepted Answer

Yes. At least one person from each contingent must attend a Group Leader Training/Orientation prior to the parade. Training covers staging procedures, safety guidelines, parade pacing, volunteer coordination, and parade day logistics. Trainings are sent to registrants and take place in May.

How long will we wait before we start marching?

Groups are assigned a staging time and a step-off time. Depending on where you appear in the lineup, you may wait between 45 minutes and a few hours before entering the parade. Groups should plan accordingly and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen. Portable toilets are available in staging areas.

How long does it take to complete the parade route?

Once your group begins marching, it typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes to complete the route. Actual timing may vary depending on parade flow, spacing between groups, and other logistical factors.

Can we bring a vehicle or float?

Accepted Answer

Yes- Vehicles and floats must be registered in advance using the vehicle add-on options during registration. Vehicle types include passenger cars or SUVs, small trucks, large trucks, buses or trolleys, and floats or flatbed vehicles. All vehicles must follow city safety requirements and parade rules

What are the main safety rules for the parade?

To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, several rules apply. Participants may not throw objects such as candy, beads, or promotional items. Alcohol or illegal drugs are not permitted during the parade. Weapons of any kind are prohibited. Groups must maintain forward movement.

Are animals allowed in the parade?

Animals are permitted but must be leashed and supervised at all times. Participants are responsible for cleaning up after their animals and ensuring they have adequate water. Please remember that the parade route involves long periods on hot pavement, which may be uncomfortable for pets.

Can groups distribute items to spectators?

Items may be handed directly to spectators, but they may not be thrown from floats or vehicles. This rule helps prevent injuries and keeps the parade route safe.

Are political groups allowed?

Yes. Elected officials and candidates are welcome to participate in the parade. However, political fundraising during the parade is prohibited. Boston Pride for the People does not endorse political candidates or parties.

Why are there registration fees?

Registration fees help cover the costs of producing the parade. These costs include permits, insurance, safety, logistics, staging, accessibility, toilets, supplies, and event infrastructure. As a nonprofit organization, Boston Pride for the People uses event revenue

What if our plans change after registering?

If you need to update your registration, such as adding a vehicle, sound system, or changing the number of marchers, please contact the Parade Team as soon as possible (parade@bp4tp.org). Some updates may also be addressed during Group Leader Training.

How can I volunteer?

BP4TP relies on volunteers to help make the parade safe, welcoming, and joyful. Volunteer opportunities include parade monitors, staging volunteers, accessibility support, and route coordination. Volunteer registration will be available through the BP4TP website.

Can I march if I am not part of a group?

Yes. Boston Pride for the People welcomes individual marchers. This option is ideal for individuals or small groups of friends who want to participate but are not affiliated with an organization. Individual marchers will be placed in a designated group within the parade lineup.
