John Stark attended the original 1977 test screening of Star Wars in San Francisco—seated directly behind George Lucas as the film played. Witnessing the audience transform from skeptical to ecstatic, he calls it the most electric moviegoing experience of his life.
A former Senior Entertainment Editor at People and longtime film critic, Stark now resides in Palm Springs and will share this firsthand story live on stage.
He is the author of the 2026 guide, “What to See in Palm Springs: Sites, History and Stories.”
