Overview

Summer Studio invites young artists to reimagine fashion as living sculpture and to celebrate the legacy of the festival’s iconic poster art

In this Project Runway–inspired camp led by mixed media artist Lilian Lara, whose practice transforms everyday materials into dramatic displays of pageantry, students will work in small collaborative design teams to create bold, unconventional wearable art. Drawing inspiration from three decades of Cherry Creek Arts Festival poster artwork, campers will reinterpret archival imagery into striking, three-dimensional fashion pieces.

Throughout the camp students will:

  • Explore different artistic styles collaborate in small teams to develop cohesive design concepts.
  • Learn to make patterns, work with custom fabric printed with CherryArts poster art as dynamic patterns and learn to use sewing machines and complete a runway ready look.
  • Experiment with textiles, sculptural construction, and mixed media techniques with provided recyclable materials in a design challenge style giving students choice and voice in how they design their garments.
  • Weave storytelling, identity, and artistic legacy into their final designs.

Rooted in Lara’s approach blending innovation, defiance, culture, and memory students will push creative boundaries while learning how collaboration strengthens artistic vision.
The experience culminates not in a traditional fashion show, but as a curated retrospective installation: final looks the student’s artwork will be professionally displayed on mannequins at the 2026 Cherry Creek Art Festival, honoring the festival’s rich visual history through contemporary youth design.

This studio is more than a camp, it’s a collaborative tribute to 35 years of art, transformed into bold, wearable celebration!
