Overview

Celebrate CHamoru Month by learning the traditional art of pandanus bracelet weaving with local cultural practitioner Kånnai.

In celebration of Guam CHamoru Month, join cultural practitioner, Kånnai, for a hands-on workshop exploring the traditional CHamoru art of weaving with pandanus (kåggon) leaves.

For generations, pandanus has played an important role in island life throughout the Marianas. The leaves are carefully prepared and woven to create useful and beautiful items such as mats, baskets, and adornments. In this workshop, participants will learn a simple traditional weaving technique used to create pandanus bracelets, while gaining insight into the cultural significance of weaving in CHamoru heritage.

Kånnai will guide participants step-by-step through the process, sharing knowledge about the plant, the preparation of pandanus, and the role weaving plays in preserving cultural traditions.

This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in:
• Learning traditional island weaving techniques
• Connecting with Guam’s cultural heritage
• Trying a hands-on cultural craft
• Creating a meaningful handmade piece to take home

No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided.
