Overview

Learn about our historic downtown and join the international urban sketching movement in this introductory class.

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon capturing the unique historic architecture and small town charm of Lawrence's Massachusetts Street. We will meet at 1pm at the parking garage on New Hampshire across from the Lawrence Art Center. From there we will stroll downtown, learn a little about Lawrence's turbulent history and select a view to engage in some urban sketching. Participants will be provided with a take home kit containing all the materials needed enjoy and document our quaint and historic downtown: urban sketching tips, water color paper, clip board, 15 color paint set, water brush and art pen.

Around 3 pm we will meet up at my air conditioned studio (721 E. 9th) for light snacks and refreshments. Here I will teach you Japanese Stab Style book binding to collect all your sketches into a small book.

Wear walking shoes, bring a sun hat, sun screen and a water bottle to the downtown meetup.

Meet at the 927 New Hampshire Street Parking Garage at 1 pm.

Parking at the garage is pay per hour. Parking in the vicinity neighborhoods, if non-metered, is free. Parking at Art Emergency is free.

Note: The 927 New Hampshire Street Parking Garage is about a 10 minute walk from the Art Emergency Studios. I'll be leaving (on foot) with our supplies at around 12:30. You are welcome to park at Art Emergency and join me on my journey. We will walk west along 9th Street and will turn left on New Hampshire to meet up at the entrance at the middle of the block on the west side of the street. Please do not be late!

There are no cash refunds, however the price of the class can be used as credit in a future class, either for yourself or a gift to another, credit towards private lessons or a deposit on a custom commission paper garment.
