Colm Tóibín THE NEWS FROM DUBLIN

We are beyond thrilled to host (again!) Colm Tóibín conversation with the incomparable Mary Dixon (WBEZ) about his new book, THE NEWS FROM DUBLIN, eleven stories that “transport readers across continents and eras.” After giving us the widely acclaimed novel LONG ISLAND, and, most recently A LONG WINTER, Tóibín brings us this magnificent set of stories, his first short story collection in 14 years. Join us for an evening full of literature, laughter, and more, in the Neo-Gothic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Evanston. Tóibín will sign books following the event. Tickets for this will go fast!

Colm Tóibín is the author of eleven novels, including LONG ISLAND an Oprah’s Book Club Pick; THE MAGICIAN, winner of the Rathbones Folio Prize; THE MASTER, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; BROOKLYN, winner of the Costa Book Award; THE TESTAMENT OF MARY; and NORA WEBSTER; as well as two story collections and several books of criticism. He is the Irene and Sidney B. Silverman Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University and has been named as the Laureate for Irish Fiction for 2022–2024 by the Arts Council of Ireland. Three times shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Tóibín lives in Dublin and New York.

Mary Dixon is the co-host of "Say More with Mary Dixon and Patrick Smith" on 91.5 WBEZ. Before that, she woke up early with Chicagoans as the host of Morning Edition on WBEZ from 2020 to 2025, and for roughly 25 years before that as the news anchor and co-host of the morning show on 93XRT. She and her family are longtime residents of Evanston.

Doors open at 6:30PM

Seating for this event is General Admission, so arrive promptly in order to pick up your books and get your seats.

Getting here: First United Methodist Church is in downtown Evanston, a few blocks east of the Davis Street Metra, CTA, and PACE public transit stops. There is some free parking and metered street parking as well as numerous parking garages nearby.
