Jane Austen's Love & Freindship [Sic]

Jane Austen's Love & Freindship [Sic]

Augustine United ChurchEdinburgh, Edinburgh
Overview

Discover Jane Austen's real teenage fan-fiction with a tale of love and friendship, with just a little death, robbery and heartbreak.

When young Marianne convinces her aunt Laura to reveal her tragic origin, she little expects such a tale of death, robbery and heartbreak. And Laura wasn't even responsible for all of it.

Written when she was just a teenager, Love and Freindship [sic] is like no other Jane Austen story. Prepare for protagonists casually starving their parents to death, women fainting so often it's a deadly hazard, improbable revelations of parentage, dramatic (or underwhelming) death scenes, and, of course, the basis of real love being entirely that your parents don't approve.

Produced by Edinburgh Rep in association with Erstwhile Media, this is a hilarious new adaptation of the Austen story by 3 time international award nominated writer Oliver Giggins (Bruntwood Longlist 2019, Through The Mill Shortlist 2021, Ilfeld 2025 Shortlist), produced by the makers of two-fringe sellout Regina Vagina (***** "Shakespeare would’ve loved this shit", All Edinburgh Theatre 2024, **** "ludicrously funny", All Edinburgh Theatre 2025, ***** "Comedic, conscientiously crafted and deliciously camp", Musical Theatre Review 2025), EHF sellout Frankomime's Monster (****, "filled with laughter, fun and craziness from beginning to end", The Indiependent, 2020), The Lady In White (****, "a delightful narrative filled with charmingly weird characters", Shiny Life, 2025) and the critically acclaimed Press To Pulp WIP (Top 10.4% script submitted to the BBC in 2025, **** "With incredibly clever dialogue, Giggins’ quick-witted and dry humour shines through – the audience buckling with laughter, [...] the comedy was delivered perfectly with no one missing a beat" NorthwestendUK 2026, **** "never stops being funny" A Young-Ish Perspective 2026) and Much Ado About Nothing (**** "delightfully funny, with endearing performances from all the cast. At the end, I felt as if I had been injected with joy." NorthwestendUK, 2026).
