OHC26: Studio 703 [Tour]
Join a tour of Priyantha Udagedara's home studios as part of Open House Colombo 2026.
Priyantha Udagedara, the artist behind Studio 703, is known for his speculative, thought-provoking paintings that marry beauty with social and political commentary. A practicing artist for over 20 years, Priyantha favours large canvases that use both paint and mixed-media to create intricately detailed pieces around themes of post-coloniality and contemporary visual culture.
In addition to his own artistic work, Priyantha is an art historian with a PhD in contemporary fine art practice. He currently heads the Department of History and Theory of Art, and is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Visual Art of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts.
A hugely prolific artist, Priyantha built Studio 703 in 2021 as a space where he could work and live simultaneously. After consulting with several architectural firms, Priyantha chose to work with Chathurika Kulasinghe from CK Architect for her known ability to design beautiful yet functional spaces.
Visitors to Priyantha’s studio will have the opportunity to view the artist’s contemporary art collection, housed over two living rooms, and gain insight into the daily working life of one of Sri Lanka’s most popular contemporary artists.
