Young Griots Club: African Storytelling & Art for Children
Ignite your child’s imagination through the sacred art of the Griot. Join us every 4th Saturday for a journey into African culture & history
Welcome to the Young Griots Club, a monthly cultural sanctuary for children held in the heart of Wilmington, DE, at the Alumni House Art Gallery.
A Griot is a traditional West African storyteller, oral historian, and keeper of the community's heritage. In this club, we empower the next generation to become "Young Griots" by teaching them the history, values, and wisdom of the African Diaspora through the power of the spoken word. This is cultural education, at its core, designed to be immersive, hands-on, and deeply inspiring for children.
What to Expect
- The Art of Storytelling: Interactive sessions featuring African folklore, historical narratives, and legends that bring the past to life.
- Inspired Art Lessons: Following the storytelling, children engage in a creative art project specifically designed to reflect the themes and culture of the day’s lesson.
- Cultural Heritage: A deep dive into the rich traditions and contributions of African civilizations in an age-appropriate, engaging way.
- A Gallery Experience: Held at The Alumni House Art Gallery, the setting provides an inspiring atmosphere surrounded by art and local history.
