Established in 1908, Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is a statewide, nonprofit organization whose mission is to partner with individuals, families, and communities to create environments that support long-term health and wellness.For more than 100 years, MHC has worked to improve mental health services, promote recovery for people with mental health conditions, educate the community about the importance of mental wellness, and combat discrimination resulting from a mental health diagnosis. Through advocacy, education, and service, MHC empowers people to promote mental wellness, instigate meaningful systems change, and engage in mental health recovery.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a globally recognized certification course that empowers adults with the skills and confidence to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, respond with compassion, and connect others to the support they need. <h4>Why Attend Mental Health First Aid?</h4>Just as CPR helps you assist someone experiencing a physical emergency, Mental Health First Aid prepares you to support someone facing a mental health or substance use challenge.Through this interactive, evidence-based training, you will learn how to:<ul><li>Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges</li><li>Understand how thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and appearance can signal someone may be struggling</li><li>Respond with empathy, reassurance, and nonjudgmental listening</li><li>Apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE) to support individuals in both non-crisis and crisis situations</li><li>Connect people to appropriate professional and community resources</li><li>Support recovery and wellbeing, while maintaining safety, privacy, and boundaries</li><li>Practice self-care strategies to sustain your own wellbeing after supporting others</li></ul>You’ll leave with a practical, easy-to-use framework that can help you support colleagues, friends, family members, and members of your community. <h4>What to Expect: Course Format</h4>This blended certification course combines flexible online learning with engaging instructor-led training:<ul><li>Part 1: Self-Paced Online Learning (2 hours) Build foundational knowledge at your own pace before the live session. This is required to attend the live course.</li><li>Part 2: Instructor-Led Training (Full Day) Participate in an interactive session led by two certified instructors. You’ll engage in discussions, activities, and real-world scenarios to practice applying your skills.
