Financial fraud is rapidly evolving, with online investment schemes, social media misinformation, and digital exploitation affecting individuals at younger ages. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Commerce will provide an overview of:

  • Consumer fraud trends
  • Investment and online trading scams
  • The influence of finfluencers
  • Relationship confidence schemes and sextortion
  • Red flag identification and prevention strategies

This session will provide educators with current data and practical insights to support classroom conversations around financial literacy, digital citizenship, and consumer protection.

  • Non-Minnesota Participants: $19

What's Included Upon Full Attendance:

  • Certificate of Completion for 1 clock hour of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Note: You must complete the session evaluation to receive your certificate.
  • Access to lessons, resources, materials, session recording, & presentation slides.

  • You must be actively licensed in MN (school email address and license must be valid and not expired - MCEE will verify license before issuing gift card).
  • You must be teaching the economics and personal finance benchmarks outlined in the Minnesota K-12 Social Studies standards and/or the Minnesota Personal Finance Statewide Guidance document.
  • K-8 webinars: Gift cards will be awarded only to educators licensed in K-8.
  • 9-12 webinars: Gift cards will be awarded only to teachers licensed in 9-12 Social Studies, Business, Agriculture/Natural Resources Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Mathematics, English as a Second Language, or Special Education.

Gift cards will only be distributed to those who meet these criteria. Please ensure your eligibility before registering. Gift cards are only available for MCEE teacher professional development webinars and are not included in MCEE Speaker Series, other council webinars, National or CEE webinars, or other sessions as indicated.
