Practice Lab - with Laura Mottola

13 May 2026 18:00-20:00 - Chisenhale Dance Space

Join Laura for "Who Am I When I’m Hacked?"

Decription

This creative workshop is a devising lab exploring the intersection of social media and identity. We will creatively explore a common and deeply personal experience: having your social media account hacked. The aim is to expose how intimately tied our digital presence is to our sense of self, and what happens when that identity is taken from us.

We will explore the emotional and psychological impact of losing control over our social media identity. Through guided discussion, improvisation, and collaborative devising, we’ll examine the blurred line between who we are and who we present ourselves to be online, and what’s at stake when that version is stolen. Being hacked is intimate. It's an invasion without fingerprints. It’s someone wearing your face and speaking in your voice. A contemporary tragedy with WiFi.

We scroll. We curate. We perform. But who performs when we lose the account?

Disclaimer: This workshop explores themes Laura is developing for a new performance work. The session is a research and devising lab, not a content extraction session. It is a collaborative exploration and any personal stories, text or movement generated remain the property of their creators.

About PRACTICE LAB

We are PROJEKT EUROPA, an international artist collective, advocacy group and arts organisation, and we create migrant-led, multilingual work at the intersection of performance, co-creation and participation.

PRACTICE LAB is a peer-to-peer skills exchange programme with twice-monthly workshops by and for migrant theatre makers. We host workshops on a huge range of different topics, from creative writing to cabaret to movement and devising. Have a look at the other exciting sessions on offer here!

PRACTICE LAB workshops are spaces for solidarity, support and inspiration. We believe that everyone is an expert in their own artistic practice, and we invite you to share your skills and experience with generosity and compassion.

Attendance is pay-what-you-can, with a minimum contribution of £5. When booking, you can choose the amount that feels right for you. Your contribution helps us cover some of the costs of running the programme and sustaining this shared space.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water, as some sessions may involve movement or practical exercises.

If you have any access needs or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Anna at anna@projekteuropa.org — we’re very happy to support you.

Please note that filming and photography may take place during the workshop. By booking a ticket, you consent to being photographed or filmed as part of the event documentation.as you are. Don’t miss out—bring your enthusiasm and let’s make it an awesome evening together!
