PICNIC

Ballroom Marfa is an internationally recognized non-collecting contemporary art museum located in Marfa, a rural town of less than 2,000 people in Far West Texas. Established in 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn, our contemporary art and performance space is housed in a 1920s-era ballroom and is free and open to the public. With generous support from individuals and foundations, Ballroom commissions new site-specific and site-inspired projects and gives artists and musicians the opportunity to engage with the magnificent landscape of the Big Bend.

May 14

Picnic kicks off with an intimate evening of art and listening. Pick up your wristband and Picnic map, view newly commissioned artwork by Rachael Hayes, and get a first look at Picnic merch designed by Eva Claycomb. Enjoy locally made Salvadoran pupusas and tequila by Lalo! Performances by Erin Schneider, Robert Fly, and Hotel Brotherhood.

Friday opens with a sound meditation in the Capri garden led by Lucía Beyond and Jacob Cameron, offering a shared moment of listening.

A guided walkthrough of Raven Halfmoon’s Flags of Our Mothers at Ballroom Marfa.

Exhibition Walkthrough

Programming continues throughout the day with performances spanning music, performance art, and experimental sound. Featuring Mary Lattimore, Green-House, Justo Cisneros and Shea McGilvary (Poem Zero), Rentboy, and a DJ set by Bobby Brown. FBeer generously provided by St. Elmo Brewing Co.

Evening Programs

May 16

Saturday opens in Capri Gardens with a shared picnic, a performance by Beau Devereaux, and picnic baskets by Bordo. Guests may choose to purchase a basket from Bordo or bring their own lunch to enjoy in the gardens.
