Come to our magically rustic woodland location, to explore your creative side. Note that we are 4 miles out of Friday Harbor, and there is no public transportation to Alchemy.

Use our pottery wheels or our slab roller to make a platter and decorate it with the sgraffito surface design technique.

Ceramics

Wheel throwing, sculpture, hand-built pottery, surface design techinques- we have it all!  Which ceramics class do you want to try first?

In this class, participants will have the option to use the wheel to throw a form of their choosing or use our slab roller to make a slab-based vessel. We will then paint on slip or underglaze and learn about the sgraffito surface design technique. Students will carve out their image onto thier forms, with encouragment to create images that tell a story or share a feeling or message.This class is for anyone interested in creating a functional ceramic object with imagery on it! Artists with wheel experience and artists new to ceramics will have different options appropriate to their needs in this class.Students are welcome to attend Open Studio in between class sessions to get more time practicing the techniques they learned. Open Studio is available for studio members and current class participants and takes place on Wednesdays from 5-7pm.Schedule: Monday, May 4th and Monday, May 11th from 5:30-8:30pmThis class is held in the ceramics studio in the main art building on the origiginal AAC campus at 1255 Wold Rd. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.This class is taught by visiting artist-in-residence Madeleine Burns. Madeleine joins us for the month of May and is a ceramic artist based in Chicago. If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.Tuition Assistance: In addition to sliding scale tickets, we also offer tuition assistance for all Alchemy classes.
