The University of Visual and Performing Arts (UVPA) is a leading institution in Sri Lanka’s creative landscape. The University’s origins trace back to the late nineteenth century, beginning as the Department of Drawing and Painting at the Ceylon Technical College in Maradana, where students were trained in Western artistic techniques and styles. In 1953, music and performing arts were introduced under the visionary leadership of UVPA’s founding principal, J.D.A. Perera. Over its 76-year history, the University has been guided by several distinguished artists, including the renowned David Paynter. It continues to uphold its legacy as a pioneer in art education in Sri Lanka.

Visitors to UVPA can explore the historic Heywood Building, where drawing classes are still conducted, and the nearby J.D.A. Perera Gallery, home to the David Paynter Collection. Adjacent to the gallery is the Heywood Art Museum, which showcases works by UVPA alumni.

The 11 am tour will be conducted in English, and the 2 pm tour in Sinhala.
